Scriba, N.Y. ― A fire broke out at the Novelis aluminum plant in Oswego County Thursday just two months after a destructive fire at the same factory.

Multiple fire departments are fighting the blaze that broke out around 9 a.m. in the Scriba plant’s hot mill section, according to dispatches from the Oswego County 911 Center.

Heavy smoke and fire could be seen from outside the factory. Workers were safely evacuated.

A fire that rocked the plant in September took more than 20 fire departments four hours to extinguish.

The plant suffered extensive damage and stopped producing aluminum sheets. The company was hoping to get the plant operational in December.
