Quebec drivers will still benefit from a discount on their licence insurance in 2026, but the savings are shrinking.

A Class 5 licence without demerit points will be approximately $50 in 2026.

In 2025, the licence renewal cost was $26.25.

This discount is possible thanks to the Quebec Automobile Insurance Fund, which has seen a “decrease in the number of people injured on the roads since 2020,” the SAAQ said in a press release.

“When we started doing the projections (for insurance costs), we didn’t plan for COVID,” said SAAQ spokesperson Simon-Pierre Poulin in an interview.

During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the years following, “we saw a reduction in the number of accidents, and therefore, of the money we have to pay to people who got injured.”
