KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The National Football League’s new kickoff rules have been under fire in recent weeks, with President Donald Trump joining the brigade that is anti the new format during a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show .

“I hate the kickoff,” Trump said, with McAfee pushing back during an appearance on Veterans Day. “I think it’s so terrible. I think it’s so demeaning, and I think it hurts the game. It hurts the pageantry. I’ve told that to (NFL commissioner) Roger Goodell.

“It’s the opposite of what the game (is supposed to be).”

The rules, which were changed in an effort to lower the risk for injury, now have players on the kicking unit and receiving unit much closer together when the ball meets the foot of the kicker.
