The execution of a search warrant at a Gadsden residence led to a shootout on Thursday morning between members of the Etowah County Joint Special Operations Group (JSOG) and a lone suspect.
The shooting, which began after officers announced themselves, ended with both the deputy and suspect being wounded. Gadsden Fire and EMS responded to the scene, treating both the officer and suspect, who is now in custody.
“Our JSOG members faced an incredibly dangerous situation today with courage and skill,” said Etowah County Sheriff Jonathon Horton. “I am relieved the deputy is expected to be okay, and I could not be prouder of the unit’s dedication to protecting this community.”
JSOG is a highly trained and county-wide tactical unit.
