A Lauderdale County child sustained "serious" injuries on Tuesday afternoon after being bitten by a dog multiple times.
The child, a 3-year-old boy, was medflighted from the scene and transported to Vanderbilt Hospital, where he is currently in stable condition and recovering.
According to the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department, the child was on a neighbor's property off Highway 157 near the Underwood-Petersville community when it made contact with the dog. The dog was reportedly chained on the property, as required by law, at the time of the incident.
The parents of the child were nearby when he was bitten, but were unable to get to him in time as the incident took place "quickly."
A neighbor of the boy's family shot and killed the dog.
