MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Many holiday parades include horses as part of the festivities. As Christmas gets closer this year, some organizers are having to adjust plans due to a virus affecting horses.

The Bastrop Morehouse Chamber of Commerce noted on November 20, that no horses will be allowed in the Bastrop Christmas Parade, set for December 6. The chamber cites a state quarantine recommendations for horses due to the Equine Herpesvirus. A chamber representatives says that no horses will be allowed in the parade, including riding clubs. The chamber states “We, along with other parades in the surrounding area, agree that the safety of our community’s equine is paramount.”

In Arkansas, the El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce made a similar decision to not allow horses in its parade. C
