SARASOTA, Fla. —
A comic book sold for $9.12 million at an auction run by Heritage on Thursday, shattering the previous record of $6 million set in 2024.
The Superman No. 1 comic comes from a family collection of comic books that had been hidden away for decades in Northern California.
A brother and sister originally bought the comic book as a way to distract themselves from the Great Depression and upcoming war, according to a news release.
The comic book, issued in 1939, was graded a 9.0 by the Certified Guaranty Company, a third-party group that looks at the condition and service of comic books and other collectibles.
