The Pirates made a flurry of roster moves ahead of Tuesday’s Rule 5 draft deadline, adding six new players to their 40-man roster and allowing five to move on. There’s one more deadline on Friday. While it won’t be as busy, the Pirates’ moves Tuesday could offer clues for their Friday decisions.

Friday is MLB’s non-tender deadline, when teams decide whether they’ll offer contracts to their arbitration-eligible players (those with roughly three years of service time or more) or whether they’ll decline that option. Nine Pirates are eligible.
