Vancouver Public Schools’ Jim Tangeman Center went into lockdown Thursday morning after a student indicated they had access to a gun and threatened staff.
About 10:05 a.m., the center, 3200 E. 18th St., went “into a lockdown because a student became very escalated and began to threaten to harm our staff,” according to a message sent to families from Principal Erick Hoffarth.
Staff called 911 and the district safety office for additional support. Safety officers arrived, searched the student and didn’t find any weapons. Vancouver police assisted in the search and investigation, Hoffarth said.
The student also indicated another student may help carry out the threats, Hoffarth said.
