ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A Cherokee County man has been found guilty of placing a woman in a headlock during a fight last year.
Sergio Esquivel was convicted of aggravated assault in the family violence category and false imprisonment on Wednesday, according to the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, which covers Cherokee County. He was also found not guilty of battery and kidnapping.
In June 2024, Holly Springs police were called to a domestic disturbance. Surveillance footage showed 42-year-old Esquivel strangling the woman during a fight that turned physical, according to prosecutors.
Officers said they also saw red marks on the woman’s face and neck while speaking with her.
Esquivel will face sentencing at a later date.
