The city of Athens is making strides to enhance inclusivity at public events by investing in a new mobile sensory unit. This initiative aims to support families and children with special needs.
The mobile sensory unit, costing $30,000, is expected to arrive in about two weeks. Stacey Givens, co-founder of the Make-A-Way Foundation , said, “The mayor, the Limestone County Commission, and even our local legislator Danny Crawford, grabbed ahold of it and within one week we had the money showed up for this.”
Shelby Taylor, a mother of three special needs children, shared her experiences. "We have a lot of planning that goes into our everyday lives just to leave the house so when we go to public events like this we have to consider are we able to get out easily if there were to be a problem
