STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. — It was a case of being in the right place at the right time for Officer Edwar Talia with the Sterling Heights Police Department early this November.
Around 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 1, Talia was working a special assignment detail at a Walmart in Sterling Heights when he was alerted to a medical emergency involving a 5-month-old infant.
The infant was choking and had stopped breathing, Talia was quick to respond.
The officer rushed to the mother and child and immediately began administering continuous back blows to the infant, all the while remaining calm, according to the police department.
