PLACER COUNTY, Calif. —
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office announced today the formation of the Placer County Cold Case Foundation, a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting the investigation and resolution of cold cases across the county.
The foundation is designed to help offset the significant expenses of modern forensic work, particularly advanced DNA testing which can reach $50,000 per case depending on complexity, the number of items tested, and the analyses required. The sheriff’s office currently tracks more than 80 cold cases, including homicides, missing persons and unidentified remains.
