SUFFOLK, Va. — The City of Suffolk and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) will conduct a major emergency preparedness training exercise on Monday, Nov. 24, at King's Fork High School.

The full-day drill, running from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., will simulate the activation of an emergency shelter in response to a significant natural disaster. Officials say the exercise is intended to strengthen communication, improve coordination among agencies and test shelter operations in a realistic environment.

Suffolk police are alerting residents that they may see an increased presence of police, fire, and EMS units around the school throughout the day on Monday. Authorities emphasize there is no cause for alarm, as all activity is part of the planned exercise. The event is closed to the public.
