PERRY COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) -Primary Care Centers of Eastern Kentucky is advocating for those struggling with diabetes through its Mary E. Martin Diabetes Center of Excellence.

The program offers clinical expertise, modern treatment options and research-driven education.

Workers at the clinic say it is important to bring this program to rural areas to ensure that patients receive specialized care close to home.

In honor of National Diabetes Month, the clinic hosted an event to give important insight on the disease. Attendees heard from patients and healthcare providers from the diabetic center.

Patients who attended the luncheon received a turkey before they left the event.
