CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia continued its criminal justice work throughout the recent federal government shutdown, securing dozens of convictions and sentences even as employees worked without pay.
During the shutdown period, the office reported 25 guilty pleas, nine federal indictments, and 31 sentencings, demonstrating that prosecutions and public safety efforts remained uninterrupted.
Federal prosecutors continued moving forward with cases tied to national and local initiatives, including Operation Take Back America, which targets drug trafficking, illegal firearms activity, and immigration-related offenses. Additional cases progressed under Project Safe Childhood and the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006,
