CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia has received federal approval to advance its Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) program, moving the state closer to distributing its largest-ever investment in high-speed internet expansion.

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has signed off on the state’s Final Proposal, clearing the way for West Virginia to begin awarding BEAD funding to expand broadband infrastructure. The funding was originally announced in June 2023 and is part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito helped negotiate.
