A man who stabbed a Federal Way teacher was sentenced to prison following a felony plea agreement.

On Nov. 14, Tyler Joseph Lawler, 34, of Federal Way, received a 13-month sentence for second-degree assault, plus a 12-month deadly weapon enhancement, making his sentence a total of 25 months — a little over two years — for a September 2023 incident where Lawler stabbed a teacher at Holy Innocents School of the Northwest, 2530 S. 298th St., Federal Way.

This follows a felony plea agreement in which prosecutors recommended that Lawler receive the sentence the court ultimately imposed. According to court documents, Lawler was initially charged with first-degree assault, but following Lawler’s guilty plea, his charge was amended to second-degree assault.
