The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has delayed the first major update to its new website due to the presence of Tropical Cyclone Fina near the Northern Territory.

The new site has faced widespread criticism since its launch during wild weather on October 22.

BOM has since brought back the rain radar's original visual style and made fire danger information available on the new site.

However, the BOM has been forced to press pause on its first major planned upgrade due to the weather.

"The first regular (planned) update to our new site was intended to go live this week," a spokesperson said

" This update has been paused due to Tropical Cyclone Fina in northern Australia. "
