SALEM, Ore. — A suspect has been arraigned after an August shooting at a homeless campsite that left one man dead, according to the Salem Police Department.

In the early hours of Aug. 27, officers responded to a report regarding gunfire near the gravel pit area of Wallace Marine Park, where they found 60-year-old Jacob Collazo with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital but died.

Jestahn, a friend of Callazo, previously told KGW that he saw Collazo go by, then heard the shots. Shortly after, someone ran up the trail, telling them to call the police.

Jestahn added it's not usually this violent in the camp and that "People pretty much try and police each other, keep everything at least pretty peaceful back there; a lot of us are homeless, don’t have any place to go right
