Within two minutes of speaking to newly-elected Mayor Jeromy Farkas he’s talking about a return to normal, public safety, discipline in spending and focusing on the nuts and bolts at Calgary city hall.

Farkas and his people are smart enough to know many of those who voted for the mayor would identify as small-c conservatives.

There are those who voted for Farkas when he ran for mayor in 2021 and no doubt voted for him in 2025.

“I’m still the fighter I was 10 years ago,” says Farkas, who was quite the scrapper at city council when Naheed Nenshi was the mayor.

“This time I’m fighting for someone and for something rather than just against something.”
