Amazon is sending out $2.5 billion back to its Prime subscribers to resolve a lawsuit from the Federal Trade Commission and payments are going out soon.
Amazon was accused of misleading customers to get them to sign up for Prime and then making it difficult for them to cancel the membership.
$1.5 billion is being paid out to eligible customers and an additional $1 billion is being paid for civil penalties.
The company said in a statement , “Amazon and our executives have always followed the law and this settlement allows us to move forward and focus on innovating for customers. We work incredibly hard to make it clear and simple for customers to both sign up or cancel their Prime membership, and to offer substantial value for our many millions of loyal Prime members around the world
