The RSPCA has launched an investigation after more than 30 native birds were found dead in a suburban Gold Coast park frequented by children and dog walkers.
Wildlife rescue organisation WIRES has received numerous calls about the birds in Gladys Moncrieff Park in Bundall over the past three days.
WIRES rescuer Amy Wregg said it appeared the birds, which were primarily Australian white ibis, had been deliberately poisoned.
"It's still an active investigation, they're trying to identify the toxin used and figure out who's been doing the baiting," she said.
" They've ruled out environmental toxins so it definitely looks like it's a malicious baiting. "
