HARRISBURG, Pa. (WPVI) -- Pennsylvania is set to become the 28th state to guarantee people protection surrounding their hair.
State lawmakers passed the Crown Act, which protects against racial discrimination based on hair type, hair texture, or protective hairstyle like braids, twists, knots and locs.
Pennsylvania Speaker Joanna McClinton began pushing for legislation in 2019.
"For every person of color that has struggled with, 'How am I showing up for this interview? What will I wear to work in terms of my hair? Do I have to press my hair? Can I wear it in a curly style or locks? It affirms you can be yourself," said McClinton.
