PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Three world-renowned scientists were honored Thursday night for their work in combating deadly diseases, including Penn immunologist Dr. David Fajgenbaum.

Fajgenbaum was among the recipients of the 2025 John Scott Award during a ceremony in Center City

He repurposed a drug to save his own life when he was diagnosed with the rare and often deadly Castleman Disease

"We're receiving this recognition because of the impact we've had in saving patients' lives. But all we can really think about are all the patients in front of us that we still need to save. And so awareness for our work will hopefully help us to save even more people," he said.
