Just over a week after the government ordered the rollback of the Quality Control Order (QCO) on Polyester Textured Yarn (PTY) — a key textile sector input — on November 12, the anti-dumping arm of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), has launched a probe into PTY originating from China. The removial of the QCO followed a Niti Aayog report that criticised these standards stating that they prevented imports of a key input material used by the Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
