The Omar Abdullah–led government has firmly opposed the proposed 20% peak-hour surcharge on electricity, asserting that no additional financial burden will be allowed on the people of Jammu and Kashmir during the peak of winter.
Senior NC leader and Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, in a post on X, said that in the harsh Kashmiri winter, power is “a necessity, not a luxury,” and any such move to raise tariffs during morning and evening peak hours is “unfair and ill-timed.”
He said the government’s stand is clear and unequivocal: “The Omar Abdullah–led Government will not allow the people of J&K to be burdened with any such proposal.”
