Opening practice at third edition of the Las Vegas Grand Prix was hampered by the same issues as the first two years ago, with loose manhole covers on the Strip Circuit causing problems

Leading up to this weekend’s race, organisers in Las Vegas were trying to paint a picture of a maturing and established event. That message was undermined somewhat when a loose manhole cover derailed practice on Thursday night .

It brought back worrying memories of F1's first race on the Strip two years ago, when Carlos Sainz's Ferrari sucked up a manhole cover and destroyed the car. Thankfully there was no such disaster this time, beyond valuable lost practice time on a tough circuit to get to grips with.
