ATLANTA — As Atlanta gears up for major events like next summer’s World Cup and the Super Bowl in 2028, the rubber is hitting the road - literally and sustainably.

The Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATL DOT) has partnered with UGA, Liberty Tire Recycling, and clean infrastructure nonprofit The Ray to launch its first rubber-modified asphalt project. The material, made from finely ground recycled tires, is being used on a one-third-mile stretch of Ellis Street, between Peachtree Street and the Downtown Connector.
