A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to cease the deployment of National Guard troops in Washington, D.C., but the decision is on hold for 21 days to allow for an appeal.
U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb concluded that President Donald Trump's military takeover of Washington, D.C. , illegally intrudes on the local police's ability to carry out law enforcement activity in the district.
The National Guard in Washington, D.C., reports directly to the president because D.C. is not a territory or a state. Across the country, governors have control over their National Guard.
