The Montreal police arson squad has launched an investigation after someone set fire to a car in the borough of St-Laurent early Friday.

Police received a call for assistance from the Montreal fire department around 12:30 a.m. concerning a vehicle on fire at the corner Crépeau and Ashton Sts.

The fire had nearly been extinguished when officers arrived, and damage to the vehicle was minor. The presence of flammable materials near the scene suggested the incident was criminal in nature and the investigation was given to the arson squad.

There were no injuries reported.
