A cat that disappeared from her home a decade ago was reunited with her family this week after a Good Samaritan brought the stray to Montclair Township Animal Shelter.

The shelter scanned the cat for a microchip and found one that was registered.

The family, who still had the same phone number after 10 years, received the call and was reunited with Asa, the shelter said in a social media post .

“Microchips work,” shelter officials said. “And sometimes, they bring a lost family member home — no matter how much time has passed."

The family had adopted two kittens from a shelter 10 years ago. Shortly after, one of them slipped out through a window and disappeared.

The family posted flyers, contacted every shelter, and talked to neighbors but never found their kitten.
