The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is planning a redesign of Aadhaar cards to enhance privacy and curb misuse of personal data, according to news agency PTI report. Under the proposed change, the cards would display only the cardholder’s photograph and a QR code, omitting the name, address, and Aadhaar number.

UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar, speaking at an online conference on a new Aadhaar app, said the measure aims to discourage offline verification by entities such as hotels, event organisers, and other organisations that currently collect photocopies of Aadhaar cards.
