The Manitoba government will replace the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Provincial Trunk Highway 5 with a full overpass, Premier Wab Kinew and Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor announced Thursday. The decision follows public consultations, a technical review and sustained calls from residents after a 2023 crash at the site killed 17 people.

“Safety is about more than engineering, it’s about trust,” Kinew said. “The people of Carberry spoke clearly, and we adjusted course. With renewed design work and real community input, we are moving toward a safe solution.”
