DUPONT, Wash. — A truck carrying live chickens crashed on Interstate 5 near DuPont early Friday morning.
A Washington State Patrol trooper reported that "hundreds of chickens" were strewn across the roadway.
The crash occurred at around 1:15 a.m. near Mounts Road at milepost 116. Three lanes of I-5 were closed while cleanup was underway, clogging traffic for miles. All lanes have since reopened, but the Washington State Department of Transportation reported that the backups have actually gotten worse because drivers are slowing down to look at the distraction. The backup reaches back to Martin Way in Lacey.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Kameron Watts posted photos of the birds on X, formerly Twitter. One photo featured a trooper patting a bird that managed to survive the crash.
