Vancouver Public Schools recently requested $21.4 million from the state in emergency funds to bridge cash flow shortages — the most the district has ever asked for and the largest request the state has received from a school district. The state granted only $8.7 million of the request.

The district is in the midst of a financial crisis. In August, the school board adopted a 2025-26 budget that will result in a low fund balance at the end of the year . The district cut $35 million from its budget in March 2024 to address a gap between state funding and costs during the 2024-25 school year .

The board passed the emergency apportionment advance resolution request on its Nov. 4 consent agenda.
