COLUMBUS, Ohio — Geauga County Probate and Juvenile Court Judge Timothy Grendell has been suspended by the Ohio Supreme Court after a majority of justices determined that he violated the Code of Judicial Conduct by ordering two teenage boys to be detained for refusing to visit their estranged father.
Grendell was suspended from judicial office without pay for 18 months, with 12 months stayed. The court added that if he were to commit any misconduct, the one-year stay would be lifted and Grendell would then be required to serve the full 18-month suspension.
The court rejected two other charges of misconduct that were filed against the 72-year-old Grendell, whose term expires in February 2027.
