Drivers in the UK are being advised to use washing up liquid in their cars to combat condensation as the country is hit with freezing cold weather . Several amber and yellow cold health alerts have been put in place across large parts of the nation this week, with the Met Office warning of "wintry hazards".

As temperatures have dropped to single figures, motorists are likely to find their windscreens frozen over and condensation forming on their windows when they get inside their car. Condensation is a common issue during the chilly autumn and winter months. It forms when warm air inside vehicles meets the cold surface of windows, creating water droplets on the glass as it cools, which can appear as fog or mist.
