The Philadelphia Art Museum has hired a new director and CEO, weeks after the former one was ousted following a lukewarm reception to a massive rebrand campaign .

The museum on Friday announced the appointment of Daniel H. Weiss, a Johns Hopkins University professor and executive and former president and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Weiss' appointment takes effect Dec. 1, 2025, and he will guide the museum through at least 2028, a news release says.

"We are extraordinarily fortunate to have someone of Dan Weiss's caliber and experience step into this critical role," said Ellen Caplan, chair of the Philadelphia Art Museum Board of Trustees.
