The New Jersey Department of Education has ordered two Middlesex County parents to repay thousands in tuition after finding their children attended school outside their home district while the family’s new house was under construction.
The two parents, who were only identified with their initials, must pay the Milltown school district more than $41,500, according to the decision.
The family lived in North Brunswick between Nov. 16, 2023, and March 6, 2025, while attending Milltown schools, the court documents say.
Milltown School District officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The parents argued their children were homeless and the family moved to North Brunswick out of economic necessity.
