A former head of MI6 has slammed Ed Miliband's net zero policies, comparing them to an "Iron Curtain model" akin with the Soviet era. The energy secretary is focusing on achieving 100% clean electricity by 2039 through a number of initiatives, including boosting Great British Energy, upgrading homes through a Warm Homes Plan and expanding nuclear power.
But writing for The Spectator , Sir Richard Dearlove, who was head of the British Secret Intelligence Service from 1999 until 2004, said the introduction of wind turbines, pylons and solar panels could ruin the British landscape. The Labour Party supports expanding energy infrastructure to achieve the UK's goals. Mr Miliband previously said he would be willing to live next to a pylon as they are necessary to connect renewable energy
