KINGSTON — The city’s red light camera program appears to be having the desired effect on driving habits.

A report to city council showed that collisions at the seven intersections with red light cameras dropped by 19 per cent since the cameras were installed in 2022.

“Overall, the red light camera program has proven to be an effective tool in improving intersection safety and supporting Kingston’s Vision Zero goals.” stated a report to council from Ian Semple, commissioner of transportation and infrastructure services.

City staff are to report back with changes to the provincial program, including possible cost reductions ahead of the scheduled contract renewal in 2027.
