Arnett had not been on the Randolph Superior Court bench since April, when he took a leave of absence. The Republican was elected as judge in 2020.
In August, a state commission said Arnett failed to schedule initial hearings in criminal cases in a timely manner, resulting in defendants remaining in the Randolph County Jail for extended periods.
Arnett was also accused of "failing to timely and properly take judicial action" in criminal cases, leading to delays and resulting in some cases being dismissed.
While banned from judicial service, Arnett did not lose his law license, and can continue to work as an attorney.
