JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — There's free roadside assistance travelers can take advantage of on some of Florida's busiest highways and interstates. It's called the Road Rangers, and it's a service that's been available for about 25 years.

With Thanksgiving travel in full swing and AAA estimating nearly 82 million people traveling for the holiday -- most by car -- the Florida Department of Transportation is reminding drivers of this free service, and also putting out a warning for drivers to help keep themselves and Road Rangers safe.

There are currently 75 Road Rangers patrolling Northeast Florida, with hundreds more across the state. They are contracted by FDOT to assist with traffic management during crashes, keeping traffic moving safely while law enforcement works the wrecks.
