A beloved Fremantle music institution that was threatened with closure over claims it was too loud has been given a lifeline.

Freo.Social will received $150,000 from the Federal Government’s Revive Live program which aims to support live music venues and music festivals.

It is the maximum grant possible from the program and will be used for major upgrades, including the installation of acoustic roof panels and insulation within the domed roof of the venue’s historic Drill Hall, applying acoustic drapes, and noise monitoring.

The works are expected to be completed by mid-2026.

Freo.Social presents more than 200 shows each year, from emerging WA talent to nationally touring acts.

Since opening in 2019, it has presented more than 800 shows.
