A new Miss Universe has been crowned, but not without serious controversy. Mexico's Fátima Bosch won the iconic beauty pageant Friday, just two weeks after being publicly berated by an event organizer in Thailand.
Nawat Itsaragrisil, a Thai businessman and co-owner of the Miss Universe Organization, called Bosch a "dumbhead" for her reluctance to post promotional content from the event. Bosch stood her ground and responded, “I’m here representing my country and it’s not my fault that you have problems with my organization." She then led a walkout with over a dozen contestants joining her.
As if that wasn't enough drama, two judges quit before the final round under mysterious circumstances. Lets get into what we know.
Who is Fátima Bosch?
A 25-year-old from Tabasco, Mexico, Bosch is the fourth Mexican woman to win Miss Universe and 74th overall. The betting markets pegged her as a favorite to win the event alongside Thailand's Praveenar Singh.
When asked during the final round how she'd use her Miss Universe position to make a safe space for women, she said, “I will put my voice in the power and the service of others. The brave ones that stand up are the ones that will make history.”
Why did the Miss Universe judges quit?
Omar Harfouch, a Lebanese-French composer, left after claiming Miss Universe secretly used a second panel of judges to determine the finalists. Former French soccer star Claude Makélélé departed for personal reasons.
When and where will the 2026 Miss Universe competition take place?
It'll be in Puerto Rico, the U.S. territory's governor confirmed Friday. The event will take place in November.
