DES MOINES, Iowa —
The city of Des Moines will delay the opening of the ice rink at Brenton Skating Plaza due to weather that has not been cold enough for the ice to freeze. While chilly and dreary out, it's not quite winter weather.
The first Holiday Promenade of the year will still go on as scheduled, with the tree lighting happening next to the ice skating rink starting at 6 p.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there from 5-8 p.m. Marines will also be on hand to collect toys for the annual Toys for Tots drive.
The rink will now open for the season at 5 p.m. Thanksgiving day Thursday, Nov. 27.
