One of Connor Hellebuyck’s greatest abilities over the course of his incredible 11-season NHL career has been his durability. The NHL’s top workhorse simply never breaks down.
So you can imagine the shock throughout the Winnipeg Jets room on Friday when they learned the league’s reigning Hart and Vezina Trophy winner was going to be sidelined for the next four to six weeks with a knee injury.
“To put it plainly, it sucks,” said captain Adam Lowry.
Hellebuyck will undergo arthroscopic surgery on Saturday. The minor medical procedure is meant to clean up an issue that has been bothering the star goaltender since training camp.
“Obviously we’ve been really fortunate to have Helly be healthy and available. His durability is something to marvel at,” said defenceman Josh Morrissey.
