The Oakland woman who was shot by Coast Guard personnel and charged with assaulting federal officers at an October immigration protest in Alameda was released from custody early Friday morning on the condition she participates in mental health treatment and lives with her parents in Southern California as the case moves forward, according to new court documents filed by her defense attorneys and federal prosecutors.
According to court records, a federal judge ordered Bella Thompson’s release from custody at a Thursday detention hearing, and her parents picked her up from jail early Friday morning.
Late Thursday night, federal prosecutors filed an emergency motion to stay Thompson’s release, but a judge rejected the motion.
