After a national outbreak of the neurologic equine disease EHV-1 was linked to horse competitions in Oklahoma and Texas earlier month, the Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) and the state veterinarian are calling for a temporary pause in the transportation of horses and for the cancellation of any equine events in the next few weeks.

While Idaho is not currently among the states where horses have tested positive, State Veterinarian Dr. Scott Leibsle said that neighboring states may soon confirm EHV-1 cases.
